Perry Township, Greene Co., Pennsylvania

 

Perry Township is located along the West Virginia border of Greene County, PA. The township covers 19,400 acres of land. The Township is home to 1,720 people living in 620 housholds. The major town located in the township is the villiage of Mt. Morris in eastern Perry Township. Mt. Morris is situated just North of Morganown, WV at exit 1 on Interstate 79, a major north-south artery in the eastern USA. Aside from the villiage of Mt. Morris, the township consists mostly of rolling hills covered by forests and pasture. The combination its peaceful, rural beauty with its convenient location makes Perry Township an excellent place to live and/or locate a business.

Perry Township has a rich History. It is the location of the western most point surveyed as part of the Mason & Dixon Line in 1767. In the early 1800's Perry Twp. was part of the Western frontier and immigrant families carved farms out of the forested hills. In the late 1800's oil and gas was discovered here, brining considerable prosperity to many of the Townships residents. For more on the history of Perry Township click here.

Some noteworthy Features in Perry Township:

Mason-Dixon Historical Park - This park straddles the PA / WV line with portions in Perry Twp. and the other portion in Monongalia County, PA. The PA portion of the park is mostly wooded and hosts several hiking trails as well as the western most marker on the Mason-Dixon line. The main park headquarters, located on the WV side contains several meeting houses, ampitheater, playground, pavillions and a boat launching ramp on Dunkard Creek.

Meadowridge Business Park - This is a 108 acre modern facility located just east of Exit 1, I79. It has been designated as a Keystone Opportunity Zone in which businesses can locate and pay greatly reduced taxes.

Perry Elementary School - This is one of two elementary schools locateed in the Central Green School District. It houses approximately 110 students enrolled in kindergarden - 5th grade.

Mt. Morris Senior Citizen's Center - The center is operated by the Southwestern Pennsylvania Area Agency on Aging, Inc.and Senior Services Community Action - Southwest. It is located in the Mt. Morris Community Center on Main St., Mt. Morris and is open Monday-Friday.

Mt. Morris Reading Center - Located in the Mt. Morris Community Center in back of the Senior Center, the Reading Center hosts a wide range of books that are available to the public.
