PUBLIC NEWS AND INFORMATION:

SEPTEMBER 2006 — DIGITIZED YEARBOOK INFORMATION
For several years, the Greene County Commissioners and other county employees have been hard at work on very important, very special project. In an effort to preserve our history, an initiative has been underway to scan each and every yearbook from each of the county’s five school districts. In September 2006, the County Commissioners presented Ruth Craft and Marilyn Kerr (Representatives from Cornerstone Genealogical Society) with a complete, digitized copy of the yearbook project. These materials will be preserved in the society’s library.
Pictured left to right are Commissioner Coder, Marilyn Kerr, Ruth Craft and Commissioner Synder.

The Cornerstone Genealogical Society in Waynesburg is now selling the digital CD Yearbook as a fundraiser. For more information on these materials, click here to access the Cornerstone Genealogical Society website. This is one of the best values Cornerstone has ever offered on genealogical material.

The Commissioners would like to say thank you to all who contributed to the project and especially to the Cornerstone Genealogical Society. Pictured along with the County Commissioners are Ruth Craft and Marilyn Kerr both with the Cornerstone Genealogical Society.

In 2002, the Greene County Board of Commissioners, the superintendents of the county’s five school districts, and the county libraries decided to embark on an important task, a task that would preserve local history. This task would be to digitally preserve on compact disc the yearbooks of each of the county’s high schools. As with all paper documents, these books were beginning to show their age and soon they would cease to exist. The books were collected from each of the area high schools as well as from alumni.
