Biography:
Pam Snyder is serving her third consecutive four-year term as a Greene County Commissioner. She was re-elected Nov. 8, 2011, took the oath of office Dec. 29, 2011, and was once again elected chairman of the Board of Commissioners. Snyder was first elected to the office of Greene County Commissioner on Nov. 4, 2003. She took the oath of office Jan. 5, 2004, and was elected chairman. On Nov. 6, 2007, Snyder was re-elected as commissioner, took the oath of office Jan. 7, 2008, and was elected chairman a second time. Snyder’s current term expires at the end of 2015.
Prior to her terms as a Greene County Commissioner, Snyder served as a senior aide to U.S. Rep. Frank Mascara from 1994 to 2002, working with constituents from Greene, Allegheny, Fayette, Washington and Westmoreland counties. As Deputy District Director for the 20th Congressional District, Snyder oversaw an office with a budget of more than $1 million. She also helped secure funding for several local projects, including a water line in the Khedive area; an expansion of the Carmichaels-Cumberland sewage plant for Paisley Industrial Park; an education grant for technology improvements in all Greene County schools; and infrastructure improvements for county-owned property.
Beginning in 1990, Snyder worked for two years as the administrative assistant to the Greene County Commissioners, and then spent two years as an assistant project engineer for the Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, where she oversaw local economic development projects. In the 1980s, Snyder served as the Chief Office Deputy in the Greene County Sheriff’s Office for six years.
As an elected official, Snyder remains active in many political, professional and civic roles. She has served as Vice Chairman of the Greene County Democratic Committee and as a member of the Pennsylvania Democratic State Committee. In 2004 and 2008, Snyder served as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention. She is also a member of the Greene County Democratic Women’s Club and the Waynesburg Lodge Women of the Moose. Previously, Snyder has served on the boards of directors for the United Way of Greene County and the Greene County Cooperative Extension, on which she served as treasurer.
Currently, Snyder is second vice president of the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania. She is expected to become first vice president in late 2012 and then president in 2013. She is also secretary/treasurer of the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission, as well as a member of the Community Advisory Board for Southwest Regional Medical Center in Waynesburg, the Greene County Local Emergency Planning Committee, the University of Pittsburgh’s Institute of Politics Economic Development Committee and the American Cancer Society’s Volunteer Leadership Council. In November 2008, the Pennsylvania Federation of Democratic Women honored Snyder with an Outstanding Elected Democratic Woman award. She was among 14 women selected from across the state to receive the honor.
A graduate of Jefferson-Morgan High School, Snyder received in March 2008 an honorary Bachelor of Arts from Waynesburg University, and in May 2008, she attended the County Leadership Training Institute at New York University’s Wagner Graduate School of Public Service.
Born and raised in Dry Tavern, Snyder is the daughter of the late John and Erma Mosier. She has one sister, Erma Steinmiller of Waynesburg, and one brother, John Mosier of Dry Tavern. Snyder and her husband, Jack, live on a small family farm in Jefferson. Their younger daughter, Maddie, is an admissions counselor at Waynesburg University. The couple’s older daughter, Joy Eggleston, is senior public affairs officer at Southwest Regional Medical Center and lives in Jefferson with her husband, Kevin, and their two children, Jackson and Theresa. Snyder and her family are active members of St. Marcellus Catholic Church in Clarksville, where Snyder serves as a lector and Eucharistic minister.
