JUNE 17, 2009 - PRISON BOARD MEETING NOTES

Commissioner Coder called the Prison Board Meeting to order at noon at the Corner Cupboard Food Bank. Others in attendance: Commissioner Snyder, Commissioner Trader, Chief Clerk Gene Lee, Warden Gillispie, Deputy Warden Susan Haxton, Judge Nalitz, Controller Balint, District Attorney Marge Fox, Sheriff Ketchum, Solicitor Farley Toothman, Dave Lloyd and Members of the Press.

MOTIONS:
  1. Commissioner Trader made the motion and Controller Balint the second to approve the minutes from May 13, 2009. Vote unanimous.
  2. Commissioner Trader made the motion and Commissioner Snyder the second to go into executive session at 12:05 pm to discuss personnel and contractual matters. Vote unanimous.
  3. Sheriff Ketchum made the motion and Commissioner Snyder the second to return to the meeting at 12:54 pm. Vote unanimous.
  4. Commissioner Snyder made the motion and Judge Nalitz the second to increase the rate of Casual Corrections Officers from $75.00 per shift to $12.77 per hour. Vote unanimous.
  5. Commissioner Snyder made the motion and Commissioner Trader the second to authorize the Warden, Solicitor and Chief Clerk to negotiate with the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections to house state inmates at the Greene County Prison. Vote unanimous.
SECURITY: Continue to house inmates from Butler and Fayette Counties.

MAINTENANCE: Leaks in the roof were repaired.

TRAINING:
  1. The supervisors attended training on the new County Handbook on May 29, 2009.
  2. Officers Melissa Baker and Curtis Sowder graduated from the Department of Corrections Training Academy on June 12, 2009.
FINANCIAL REPORT:
  1. Deposits totaling $4,267.00 were made with the Greene County Treasurers Office for work release and weekend inmates.
  2. Butler County owes $2,790.00 for May 2009 housing.
  3. Fayette County owes $2,155.00 for May 2009 housing.

PUBLIC COMMENT:
  • Commissioner Snyder made the motion and Commissioner Trader the second to meet again at the call of the Chairman for negotiations. Vote unanimous.
  • The next Prison Board meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 in the Commissioners Meeting Room at 11:45 am.
ADJOURNMENT: Commissioner Snyder made the motion and Commissioner Trader the second to adjourn the meeting. Vote unanimous.
