COMMISSIONERS ENCOURAGE COUNTY MUNICIPALITIES, ORGANIZATIONS, TO APPLY FOR RECOVERY FUNDS

WAYNESBURG, PA – The Greene County Commissioners announced today that they are encouraging county municipalities and organizations to collaborate with the county to research and apply for funding opportunities made available through the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, signed into law Feb. 17 by President Barack Obama.
"We want the county to be the recipient of as much of the funding as possible, which is why it is essential that all projects are viable, meet the criteria and are ready to go,” said Pam Snyder, chairman of the Board of Commissioners.
Projects should be well advanced in the design process or ready to begin construction due to the strict guidelines regarding criteria, timeframes and deadlines for applications and the use of funds. Numerous funding opportunities and funding streams exist at both the federal and state levels; therefore, working with county officials should help streamline the process for applying for and receiving funds.
The commissioners have named Cassandra Bryan, economic development associate, as ARRA coordinator for the county. Bryan will be responsible for screening and coordinating applications for funding, and the economic development office will offer assistance in researching and preparing applications.
Although federal and state information and guidelines are being updated daily, the county will pursue funding related to economic development, emergency watershed protection, housing, weatherization, police protection, drinking water, sewage and broadband technology. The county also has been confirmed for additional funding made available through the state Department of Transportation and the state Department of Community and Economic Development’s Community Development Block Grant Program.
