ORGANIZATIONS TO PROVIDE FISH KILL UPDATE DECEMBER 3

WAYNESBURG, PA – The Greene County Conservation District and the Upper Monongahela River Association will host a public meeting Thursday, Dec. 3, for anyone interested in receiving an update on the investigation into the Dunkard Creek fish kill.
The meeting will start at 4 p.m. in the community room of the Mt. Morris Gospel Tabernacle Church in Mt. Morris and is expected to conclude at 8 p.m. In addition to Dunkard Creek updates, speakers will also address the status of Marcellus Shale drilling in the region.
“The Conservation District Board of Directors called for this public meeting and invited agencies involved with the fish kill investigation to update the public on Dunkard Creek,” said Robbie Matesic, executive director of economic development. “This meeting also serves as the Upper Mon River Association’s 12th water quality forum.”
Scheduled speakers include representatives from the UMRA, Penn State University, the Pennsylvania and West Virginia Departments of Environmental Protection, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources, the West Virginia Water Research Institute, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The meeting will first address Marcellus Shale drilling and water supply safety, then speakers will provide updates on Dunkard Creek and the issues involved with the fish kill, which was first reported in September. A question-and-answer session will then be held before the meeting concludes.
