GREENSBORO, PA The Easter Bunny greeted more than 60 children and adults who turned out for the Greene County Department of Recreation’s Easter egg hunt and skate, held Sunday, March 28, at Mon View Park in Greensboro.
The day’s festivities kicked off at 1 p.m. with an Easter basket decorating contest. Prizes were awarded for first-, second- and third-place winners in three age categories.
The Easter basket decorating contest winners were:
Ages 1 to 4: First place, Brooklynn Ackley, 3, of Waynesburg; second place, Katelynn Schoenfeldt, 1, of Holbrook; and third place, Bradley Schoenfeldt, 3, of Holbrook.
Ages 5 to 7: First place, Ian Ackley, 5, of Waynesburg and Camille Bowlin, 7, of New Geneva; second place, Alexia Conard, 5, of Waynesburg and Lauren Pegg, 7, of Smithfield; and third place, Autumn Jenkins, 6, of Mt. Morris and Brendan Miller, 6, of Holbrook.
Ages 8 to 11: First place, Devon Dyer, 8, of Mt. Morris; second place, Delaney Lohr, 8, of Carmichaels; and third place, Maggie Lewellen, 8, of Bobtown.
First-place winners received an electronic handheld Monopoly/Connect 4 game, a talking pet and a single-admission pass to the Foundation Coal Family Aquatic Center in Waynesburg. Second-place winners received an electronic sports game and a single-admission pass to Mon View Roller Rink, and the third-place prize was an electronic sports game and a bubble stick.
During the contest, Greene County Commissioner Pam Snyder introduced magician R. Chad Davis of Fairmont, W.Va., who performs as “Chad the Amazing Magician.” Davis has been performing professionally for 20 years and has become one of the region’s top family entertainers. He has performed at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, Va., and for companies including Target, Exxon and Allegheny Power. Davis said one of his most interesting experiences was when he performed for the Hubble Space Telescope astronauts’ Christmas party in an aircraft hangar at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md.
At 1:30 p.m., despite inclement weather, children hunted 1,700 eggs hidden throughout the park. A special Easter skate was then held from 2 to 4 p.m.
The Easter events were sponsored by Greene Waste Services, LLC-F&D Sanitation of Greensboro and the Greene County Commissioners and Department of Recreation. The 2010 Miss Greene County Queens were also on hand to assist with name badges and basket entries.
Spring skating hours at Mon View are 7 to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Admission to skate is $4, or $5 with skate rental. General admission to the facility is $5.
