News Release: January 6, 2010
Contact: Elizabeth Witte, Communications Director (724-852-5210)

WAYNESBURG, PA – Applications are now available for the 20th annual Miss Greene County Pageant, scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, March 7, in the Stanley Ferek III Auditorium of Carmichaels Area High School in Carmichaels. Sponsored by Consol Energy, Inc., and the Greene County Commissioners, and presented by the county Department of Recreation, the pageant is open to Greene County girls ages 2 to 17.

The age categories are as follows: Tiny Miss, 2 to 4 years; Petite Miss, 5 to 7 years; Junior Miss, 8 to 11 years; Young Miss, 12 to 14 years; and Teen Miss, 15 to 17 years. Age categories are determined by the age of the contestant on the day of the pageant. A queen and a first runner-up will be awarded in each age category.

To qualify as a contestant, each girl must submit a complete application, which includes several forms, $400 minimum in advertising sponsorships, and 5x7 and 8x10 photos, color or black and white. The application fee has been waived this year. All materials must be received by 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, at the Department of Recreation, 107 Fairgrounds Road, Waynesburg.

During the pageant, each contestant will be judged on her photo and modeling of sportswear and formal wear. All contestants except Tiny Miss contestants will also be judged on a talent performance, and only Young Miss and Teen Miss contestants will be judged on interviews conducted prior to the pageant. All contestants are also eligible for the Director’s Award, which will be presented to the contestant who sells the most in advertising sponsorships. The award is a savings bond worth up to $500.

Pageant rehearsal will be held Saturday, March 6, and is mandatory for all contestants. Tiny Miss and Petite Miss contestants must arrive in the auditorium by 9 a.m., and Junior Miss, Young Miss and Teen Miss contestants must arrive by 10 a.m. On the day of the pageant, Young Miss and Teen Miss contestants must be present by 12 p.m., and all other contestants must be present by 12:45 p.m. Doors open to the public at 1 p.m.

The reigning Miss Greene County queens are Tiny Miss, Ember Weber of Waynesburg; Petite Miss, Alison Blair of Waynesburg; Junior Miss, Caitlyn Ricco of Carmichaels; Young Miss, Kendall Lewis of Carmichaels; and Teen Miss, Kayla Coss of Waynesburg. Coss retained her crown from 2008 after no contestants entered the Teen Miss category last year. Each of the four queens crowned last year received a trophy, tiara, sash, bouquet and a $100 savings bond.

Tiny Miss first runner-up Valentina Bruno of Waynesburg won last year’s Director’s Award and received a trophy and a $500 savings bond.

Pageant applications are available at the Department of Recreation, the Greene County Commissioners’ office and other area locations. Applications may also be downloaded from the Greene County Web site, www.co.greene.pa.us.

All proceeds from the 2010 Miss Greene County Pageant will benefit the Department of Recreation’s Day Camp program, which provides free activities for county children every summer. For more information on the Miss Greene County Pageant, call 724-852-5323 or e-mail pageant.
