WAYNESBURG, PA – The Greene County Department of Recreation will offer Pilates classes beginning Thursday, Jan. 14, at the Greene County Fairgrounds in Waynesburg. Certified Pilates instructor Kathy Cochran will lead the classes, which will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursdays through Feb. 18 on the upper level of the fairgrounds’ 4-H Building
Individual classes will be offered at a cost of $4 per class. Class attendees should wear comfortable clothing and bring water, a towel and a Pilates mat if possible. Pilates is usually performed without shoes.
The main benefits of Pilates include better circulation, increased lung capacity, and improved balance, coordination, flexibility and strength. According to the Pilates Web site, the exercise program focuses on developing a strong “core” by creating flat abdominals, slimmer thighs and a stronger back.
This winter, the Department of Recreation is also offering Zumba classes from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays from Jan. 12 to Feb. 16. All exercise classes are sponsored by the Greene County Commissioners and Recreation.
