WAYNESBURG, PA — The Greene County Department of Recreation will offer the 2010 Baseball Camp from Monday, June 14, through Friday, June 18, at Carmichaels Area High School in Carmichaels.
The camp will run each day from 9 a.m. to noon and is designed for children between the ages of 7 to 14 years old. A $100 registration fee will be charged, and the deadline for registration is Friday, June 11. Pre-registration is required.
Throughout the week, campers will learn baseball techniques and other tips to help them improve their game. This year’s camp features coaches and staff from award-winning programs at local high schools. Camp directors are Dave Bates, head baseball coach at Carmichaels Area High School, and John Curtis, head baseball coach at Jefferson-Morgan High School.
"It’s a smaller camp and a smaller clinic with more one-on-one instruction," Bates said. "We usually have a 6-to-1 ratio of campers to a clinician, and I think that’s a real strength of ours. The camp is very structured, which parents always tell us they appreciate."
Camp clinicians include Frank Pryor, head baseball coach at Bethlehem-Center High School, and former players A.J. Curtis and Adam Dukate. Dawn Ward-Malik, a certified athletic trainer for Carmichaels, will also be on site each day.
Campers should bring gloves, spikes, tennis shoes and ball caps. Catchers should bring their own gear if possible. Bats and helmets are optional to bring. At the conclusion of camp, various prizes will be awarded in different categories and skill levels. All campers will receive a 2010 Baseball Camp T-shirt.
