FLY TYING COURSE TO START MARCH 9

News Release: March 3, 2010
Contact: Elizabeth Witte, Communications Director (724-852-5210)

WAYNESBURG, PA – Starting Tuesday, March 9, the Greene County Department of Recreation will offer a three-week beginner’s course in the art of fly tying. The course costs $20 and is limited to 10 students. The pre-registration deadline is Monday, March 8.

The course is designed for individuals 18 and older who are interested in learning the basic principles needed to begin fly tying. Classes will run from 7 to 8:30 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday through March 25 and will be held on the upper level of the 4-H Building at the Greene County Fairgrounds in Waynesburg.

Instructor Ken Dufalla will lead the six classes, which will focus on topics such as threading a hook, adding the basic body parts of a fly, adding the hackle and tying off the fly. Each student will have the opportunity to make several flies during the course, including streamers.

The course is the first in a series that will lead to students learning more advanced fly tying skills and making the most complicated flies and lures such as dry flies and nymphs. Three more courses are expected to be offered later this year.

For more information, or to pre-register for the course, call the Department of Recreation at 724-852-5323.
