News Release: March 3, 2010 Contact: Elizabeth Witte, Communications Director (724-852-5210)
WAYNESBURG, PA – After a successful run of classes earlier this winter, the Greene County Department of Recreation is now offering second sessions of Pilates and Zumba fitness classes. Both classes will be held on the upper level of the 4-H Building at the Greene County Fairgrounds in Waynesburg.
The second session of Pilates classes began Tuesday, March 2, and will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. every Tuesday through April 27. Certified Pilates instructor Kathy Cochran will lead the classes, which cost $4 each. Class attendees should wear comfortable clothing and bring water, a towel and a Pilates mat if possible. Pilates is usually performed without shoes.
The next session of Zumba classes will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. every Wednesday from March 3 to April 7 with instructor Kellie Ann Maute. Individual classes will be offered at a cost of $8 per class. Class attendees should wear sweat-absorbing clothes and good support shoes, such as cross-training or dance shoes, as well as bring water and towels.
The main benefits of Pilates include better circulation, increased lung capacity, and improved balance, coordination, flexibility and strength. According to the Pilates Web site, the exercise program focuses on developing a strong “core” by creating flat abdominals, slimmer thighs and a stronger back.
The Zumba program is more dance-oriented, combining Latin and international music with dynamic, yet simple exercise moves, according to the Zumba Web site. The program motivates the body to efficiently burn calories, effectively tone all muscle groups, incorporate a full range of motion and improve the cardiovascular system.
All fitness classes are sponsored by the Greene County Commissioners and the Department of Recreation.
