CARMICHAELS, PA – Five local girls were crowned Miss Greene County in their age divisions during the 20th annual Miss Greene County Pageant, held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 7, in the Stanley Ferek III Auditorium of Carmichaels Area High School. A queen and first runner-up were crowned in each of the five age categories – tiny, petite, junior, young and teen.
The five queens crowned were: Tiny Miss, Brooklynn Ackley, 3, of Waynesburg; Petite Miss, Remmey Lohr, 7, of Carmichaels; Junior Miss, Juliana Fowler, 8, of Waynesburg; Young Miss, Amanda Frampton, 12, of New Freeport; and Teen Miss, Mikayla Sonneborn, 15, of West Finley. Each of the five queens received a trophy, crown, sash and bouquet and will receive a $100 savings bond.
A total of 18 contestants competed in this year’s pageant, which had the theme "Unforgettable."
"All 18 of our contestants are winners,” said Commissioner Pam Snyder, chair of the Board of Commissioners and master of ceremonies for the pageant. “They should be extremely proud of themselves. These young ladies devoted a lot of time and worked hard. They are all beautiful and talented, and we thank them for their participation.”
The age categories were: Tiny Miss, 2 to 4 years; Petite Miss, 5 to 7 years; Junior Miss, 8 to 11 years; Young Miss, 12 to 14 years; and Teen Miss, 15 to 17 years.
In the Tiny Miss division, Ackley also won the photogenic award. Runner-up Rachel Koratich, 3, of Waynesburg won the sportswear modeling award, and Annalise Willis, 3, of Waynesburg won the formalwear modeling award.
In the Petite Miss division, Lohr also won the formalwear, sportswear and talent awards. Runner-up Valentina Bruno, 5, of Waynesburg won the photogenic award. Bruno also won the Director’s Award for raising the most money in advertising sponsorships among all contestants. She received a trophy and will receive a $500 savings bond. The third Petite Miss contestant was Paige Hellems, 7, of Waynesburg.
In the Junior Miss division, Fowler also won the photogenic and sportswear awards. Runner-up Micaela Ricco, 8, of Carmichaels won the talent award, and Olivia King, 9, of Waynesburg won the formalwear award.
In the Young Miss division, Frampton also won the formalwear, photogenic, sportswear and talent awards. Runner-up Stephanie Mitchell, 13, of Carmichaels won the interview award. Other Young Miss contestants included Charlyne Adams, 14, of Carmichaels, Haley Fowler, 13, of Jefferson, Trisdyn Lapping, 12, of Waynesburg and Lakelyn Sheldon, 14, of Crucible.
In the Teen Miss division, Sonneborn also won the interview, photogenic, sportswear and talent awards. Runner-up Taylor Rush, 15, of Waynesburg won the formalwear award. The third Teen Miss contestant was Sarah Reid, 16, of Carmichaels.
Judges for the pageant were Lauren Giffen, choreographer and stage director for the Bridgeport (W.Va.) Benedum Festival Pageant; Donna Green, Miss USA and Miss America contestant coach and BeautiControl Cosmetics senior director of Western Pennsylvania; and Terry Leyland, producer, director and choreographer for the Little Miss and Junior Miss Butler County of America pageants, assistant choreographer and board member for the Miss Butler County, Miss Moraine State and Miss Mercer County scholarship pageants and certified judge for the Miss America Organization.
Assisting in the awards ceremonies were the 2009 Miss Greene County queens: Tiny Miss Ember Weber of Waynesburg, Petite Miss Alison Blair of Waynesburg, Junior Miss Caitlyn Ricco of Carmichaels, Young Miss Kendall Lewis of Carmichaels and Teen Miss Kayla Coss of Waynesburg. Also assisting were Emily Block, 2009 Miss Rain Day, and Erica Bristor, 2009 Coal Queen, both of Waynesburg.
The 2010 Miss Greene County Pageant was sponsored by Consol Energy, Inc., and the Greene County Commissioners, with additional support from Dale Property Services Penn, Energy Corporation of America, Admiral Well Service and T-Tygart Industries, Inc. The pageant was presented by the Greene County Department of Recreation.
All proceeds from the 2010 Miss Greene County Pageant will benefit the Department of Recreation’s Day Camp program, which provides free activities for county children every summer. For more information, call 724-852-5323.
