WAYNESBURG, PA — As Greene County’s three public pools officially open for the summer in June, the county Department of Recreation will offer swimming lessons at Foundation Coal Family Aquatic Center in Waynesburg, Carmichaels Pool in Carmichaels and Mon View Pool in Greensboro.
Sign-ups for swim lessons will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 1 at the aquatic center, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 2 at Carmichaels Pool and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 3 at Mon View Pool.
Lessons are $20 per class, and payment will be due upon signing up for classes. Each class is designed for swimmers of certain skill levels. Class instructors will determine in which class to place each swimmer. A minimum of five swimmers must be signed up for each class to run. The maximum for each class is 15 swimmers. Some classes may be combined or canceled due to enrollment. Refunds will only be given if the Department of Recreation cancels a class.
The class levels are as follows:
Parent and Child Aquatics for parents and children ages 6 months to 3 years
Pre-School Aquatics for ages 4 to 5
Level 1, Introduction to Water Skills
Level 2, Fundamental Aquatic Skills
Level 3, Stroke Development
Level 4, Stroke Improvement
Level 5, Stroke Refinement
Level 6, Swimming and Skill Proficiency
The schedule of classes at the aquatic center is:
June 21-25: 9-11 a.m., Levels 4 and 6, and 10-11 a.m., Level 2;
July 6-9: 9-10 a.m., Level 3, 9-11 a.m., Level 5, and 10-11 a.m., Level 1;
July 12-16: 9-10 a.m., Level 3, 9-11 a.m., Level 5, 10-11 a.m., Level 1, and 11-11:30 a.m., Pre-School and Parent and Child Aquatics;
July 19-23: 9-11 a.m., Levels 4 and 6, and 10-11 a.m., Level 2;
Aug. 2-6: 9-10 a.m., Level 3, and 10-11 a.m., Levels 1 and 2.
The schedule of classes at Carmichaels Pool is:
June 21-25: 10 a.m.-noon, Levels 4 and 6, and 11 a.m.-noon, Level 2;
July 6-9: 10-11 a.m., Level 3, 10 a.m.-noon, Level 5, and 11 a.m.-noon, Level 1;
July 12-16: 10-11 a.m., Level 3, 10 a.m.-noon, Level 5, 11 a.m.-noon, Level 1, 11-11:30 a.m., Pre-School Aquatics, and 11:30 a.m.-noon, Parent and Child Aquatics;
July 19-23: 10 a.m.-noon, Levels 4 and 6, and 11 a.m.-noon, Level 2;
Aug. 2-6: 10-11 a.m., Level 3, and 11 a.m.-noon, Levels 1 and 2.
The schedule of classes at Mon View Pool is:
Aug. 2-6: 10 a.m.-noon, Level 4, 12:30-1:30 p.m., Level 3, 1:30-2:30 p.m., Level 2, and 2:30-3:30 p.m., Level 1.
Admission prices at the aquatic center are $5 for children age 17 and younger and senior citizens age 62 and older, and $7 for adults ages 18 to 61. Aquatic center hours will be noon to 7 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and noon to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
For Carmichaels Pool, admission is $3 for children age 17 and younger and senior citizens age 62 and older, and $5 for adults ages 18 to 61. Carmichaels Pool hours will be 1 to 7 p.m. daily.
At Mon View Pool, admission is $2 for children age 17 and younger and senior citizens age 62 and older, and $4 for adults ages 18 to 61. The pool will be open from 1 to 7 p.m. only on weekends throughout the summer, but will be open daily while the Day Camp program is in session from June 21 to July 30.
All pools will remain open until Labor Day, Sept. 6, although hours are subject to change in the event of inclement weather.
