WAYNESBURG, PA The Greene County Commissioners and First Federal Savings & Loan of Greene County will host a “Steelers Super Bowl ‘Tail’-gate Party” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, on the steps of the Greene County Courthouse. The event will benefit the Humane Society of Greene County and is open to the public.
In addition to a live broadcast of music and Steelers songs by WANB Radio, food by Moore’s Hot Dogs and a bake sale, three Steelers gift baskets sponsored by First Federal will be raffled. Tickets for the baskets will be available for sale this week at the Greene County Commissioners’ office until the drawing at 12:30 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $1 each, or $5 for an arm’s length. All proceeds will benefit the Humane Society.
Each prize basket will include a black, size XL Steelers jersey and other Steelers prizes. The jerseys included are Rashard Mendenhall #34, James Harrison #92 and Brett Keisel #99. Each basket’s items are valued at approximately $100.
Also on Friday, the Humane Society will accept donations of its most needed items, including cans or bags of dog and cat food; cat toys and dog chews; gently used sheets, towels, washcloths, blankets, bedding and pillows; clay cat litter; and laundry detergent and dishwashing liquid.
"The Greene County Commissioners are so pleased to support our Steelers as they head to the Super Bowl and also raise money and shine a deserved light on the Humane Society,” said Commissioner Pam Snyder, chair of the Board of Commissioners. In honor of the Steelers’ appearance at the Super Bowl, the commissioners will this week temporarily rename Greene County “Black and Gold County."
"I’d like to thank the commissioners very much for including us in this Steelers event," said Jane Gapen, executive director of the Humane Society. "We are truly grateful for the support."
"We’re happy and honored to support such a great organization as the Humane Society," added Charles Trump, Jr., Assistant Secretary-Savings Officer at First Federal of Greene County. “Go Steelers, go Steelers, go Steelers!"
