News Release: May 11, 2011
Contact: Elizabeth Menhart, Communications Director/Tourism (724-852-5210)

WAYNESBURG, PA — As part of a resolution passed this week, the Greene County Commissioners and the Greene County Veterans Affairs office are seeking photographs of Vietnam War veterans who are listed on The Wall, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.

The photos will be posted on The Virtual Wall, which is included on the Web site for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at www.vvmf.org. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, the nonprofit organization that built The Wall, plans to construct an Education Center near the memorial and will eventually use the photos as part of an exhibit called “The Wall of Faces.” The organization hopes to collect photographs of all 58,272 names inscribed on the memorial.

The Greene County Commissioners approved this week a resolution expressing support for the construction of the Education Center and encouraging county residents to upload photos.

To upload a photo to The Virtual Wall, visit www.vvmf.org/thewall and search for the veteran’s name. Once the veteran has been located, click on the veteran’s profile, select “Post a Remembrance” and follow the instructions to upload a photo. The Commissioners’ and Veterans Affairs offices are also able to assist county residents in scanning and uploading their photos.

For more information, call 724-852-5275, or visit www.vvmf.org or www.buildthecenter.org.
