WAYNESBURG, PA Greene County residents have until Tuesday, Oct. 11, to register to vote in the Nov. 8 general election, according to dates and information provided by the county elections office. County voters who have changed their names or addresses, or who wish to change their party affiliation, need to notify the elections office of any changes prior to the registration deadline. Voters are also reminded that a residential address is required to register.
Registered voters unable to vote at their polling place Nov. 8 have until Tuesday, Nov. 1, to apply for an absentee ballot. The deadline for voted absentee ballots to be returned to the elections office is Friday, Nov. 4.
Offices on the Nov. 8 general election ballot, in ballot order, include the state offices Judge of the Superior Court and Judge of the Commonwealth Court, as well as the following Greene County offices: Judge of the Court of Common Pleas, Commissioners, Clerk of Courts, Treasurer, Controller, Register and Recorder, District Attorney, Prothonotary, Magisterial District Judge 13-3-01 and Magisterial District Judge 13-3-02. All offices are four-year terms, except the district judges, which are six-year terms, and the Court of Common Pleas judge, which is a 10-year term.
The ballot also includes several retention questions for the state Supreme, Superior and Commonwealth courts.
Voters in individual precincts will also see candidates for township, borough and school district offices on the ballot. Offices include township supervisors and auditors; borough council members, auditors and a tax collector in Greensboro Borough; and school board directors. A complete listing of the offices is available in the elections office.
Frances Pratt, director of elections, would like to remind voters that a sample ES&S iVotronic voting machine will remain on display in the elections office through Nov. 8 for anyone wishing to practice using the machine. Voters will see the ballot as it will appear and can run through the steps to casting their votes on the touch-screen machine.
Pratt would also like to notify voters in the Whiteley Township precinct that their polling place, the township building on Kirby Road, is currently inaccessible to voters with physical limitations. Any voter assigned to the Whiteley Township precinct who has physical limitations should call the elections office for information on receiving an absentee or alternative ballot.
The county Board of Elections will begin the computation and canvass of votes at 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 14, in the elections office.
