MORE THAN 200 ROLL IN THE NEW YEAR AT MON VIEW ROLLER RINK

GREENSBORO, PA — More than 200 individuals rolled in the New Year at the fourth annual “All Night Skate,” held New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31, 2011, at Mon View Roller Rink and Community Center in Greensboro.

Activities for the event, which began at 10 p.m. Dec. 31 and ended at 6 a.m. Jan. 1, included continuous skating, games and prizes, and hot dogs and sauerkraut at midnight. Waynesburg Rent-A-Center donated a large-screen TV for the “Guitar Hero” competition, which featured three winners based on skill level.

Winners were: first place, Nathan Shaffer, 17, of Carmichaels; second place, Brandon Schaum, 17, of Taylortown and Seth McCann, 11, of Greensboro; third place, Bryan Russman, 11, of Greensboro; and fourth place, Madison Davis, 13, of Carmichaels and Alissa Check, 14, of Carmichaels. Winners could choose between an MP3 player or a season pass to Mon View Roller Rink.

Sponsored by the Greene County Commissioners and Waynesburg Rent-A-Center, the skate was intended for children and teens 17 and younger. Admission was $10 per person.

Winter skating hours at Mon View are 7 to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. The roller rink will be closed Jan. 6-7 and Jan. 13-14 for routine maintenance and will reopen for regular skating on Friday, Jan. 20. Regular admission is $5 for all skaters, whether renting skates or bringing their own, and $5 for non-skaters. Times and prices may change for special events.

The Department of Recreation will host eight “Skate & Dance” events on Fridays throughout the winter and spring at Mon View. The dates are Jan. 20, Feb. 10 and 24, March 9 and 23, April 13 and 27 and May 4. The skate will run from 7 to 9 p.m., and the dance will be held from 9 to 11 p.m. Admission is $8.

Mon View is available to rent for private parties at a rate of $120 for two hours. The price covers admission and skate rental for 20 people. A fee of $3 per additional person will be charged. Skate lessons are also available by appointment only.
