GREENE COUNTY POOLS TO OPEN MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

WAYNESBURG, PA — Two of Greene County’s three public pools will open for the first swim of the season Saturday, May 26. Alpha Aquatic Center in Waynesburg will open at noon, and Carmichaels Pool in Carmichaels will open at 1 p.m. during the three-day Memorial Day weekend. Mon View Pool in Greensboro is expected to open at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 2.

Following Memorial Day, Alpha Aquatic Center and Carmichaels Pool will next be open daily starting June 2. Mon View Pool will be open only on weekends throughout the summer, but will be open daily while the Day Camp program is in session from June 18 to July 27.

Carmichaels Pool is scheduled to close to daily swimming Saturday, Aug. 18, and Alpha Aquatic Center and Mon View Pool will both close for the season Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 3.

All admission prices will remain the same as last year. County children attending Day Camp will still pay a discounted rate of $2 per day to visit any of the pools during the camp hours of 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Aquatic Center hours will be noon to 7 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and noon to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Admission prices are $5 for children age 17 and younger and senior citizens age 62 and older, and $7 for adults ages 18 to 61. Season memberships for a family of four start at $379, plus $60 for a fifth person, $50 for a sixth person and $40 for a seventh person. Individual season memberships are $140 for children age 17 and younger and senior citizens age 62 and older, and $170 for adults ages 18 to 61. Swimming lessons are $25 per person.

The aquatic center features a 330,000-gallon competition-sized pool with eight lap lanes, two diving boards and a 12-foot diving pool; a 40-by-40-foot children’s play area including a 148-foot spiral water slide, a 25-foot straight water slide, a 180-foot “lazy river” with tubes for floating, water jets and other play equipment; a bath house with lockers, restrooms, showers and changing facilities; and a concession stand and seating area. A community room is available onsite to rent for birthdays or other special events in June and July. The fee is $45 to rent for two hours, from either 1 to 3 p.m. or 4 to 6 p.m.

At Carmichaels Pool, hours will be 1 to 7 p.m. daily. Admission rates are $3 for children age 17 and younger and senior citizens age 62 and older, and $5 for adults ages 18 to 61. Season memberships for a family of four are $219 for county residents and $249 for non-county residents, plus $50 for each additional person. Individual memberships are $120 for children age 17 and younger and senior citizens age 62 and older, and $150 for adults ages 18 to 61. Swimming lessons are $25 per person.

Carmichaels Pool features a 300,000-gallon Z-shaped pool, a diving board, an 11-foot diving pool, an 8-foot water slide and a 70-foot spiral water slide, a 15-by-15-foot children’s play area, lockers, restrooms, showers, changing facilities and snack machines. The facility will also be available to rent for parties from 7 to 9 p.m. in June and July. The cost is $80 without the use of the spiral water slide or $120 with the slide. Parties of 100 guests or more will cost an additional $40.

Mon View Pool will be open from 1 to 7 p.m. Admission rates are $2 for children age 17 and younger and senior citizens age 62 and older, and $4 for adults ages 18 to 61. Season memberships for a family of four are $189 for county residents and $209 for non-county residents, plus $40 for each additional county resident and $50 for each additional non-county resident. Individual memberships are $90 for children age 17 and younger, $100 for adults ages 18 to 61 and $70 for senior citizens age 62 and older.

Mon View Pool features a 200,000-gallon T-shaped pool, a diving board, an 11-foot diving pool, a 20-by-20-foot children’s play area, lockers, restrooms, showers, changing facilities and snack machines. The pool will be available to rent for parties from 7 to 9 p.m. in June and July. The cost is $80, and parties of 100 guests or more will cost an additional $40. The eight picnic pavilions at Mon View Park are also available to rent at various rates.

Active-duty military personnel and their immediate families may swim for free at any of the pools under a resolution passed by the Greene County Commissioners. Military members must bring their military identification cards to receive passes.

RYERSON STATION STATE PARK, PA — Ryerson Station State Park's swimming pool will open for the 2012 swimming season on a limited schedule like the Greene County public pools; opened for Memorial Day weekend from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m beginning Saturday, May 26 through Monday, May 28.

It will be closed Tuesday through Friday while lifeguards finish school, and then reopen June 2 for the summer season.

The days and hours of operation for the main pool and wading pools may be on a limited basis. Notice will be issued at a later date with more information on the pool schedule.

Ryerson Station State Park's staff emphasizes rules and regulations for the park's swimming pool must be followed:
  • Rule prohibit swimming outside the designated swimming area; swimming other than the posted hours; use of underwater breathing apparatus or a snorkel; possessing or using a glass or breakable container or utensil in the designated swimming area.
  • Rules also prohibit smoking in the designated swimming area; food and drinks in the designated swimming area; diving and running.
  • Cut-off pants, clothing that may damage the filtration system or pool surface or pool liner, or clothing that may otherwise cause damage or endanger the facility or a visitor is prohibited.
  • Bathing suits must cover all private areas of the individual; thongs, for example, are prohibited. Clothing that is not leak-proof on an infant or on a child who is not toilet trained is prohibited. Clothing identifying individuals as a lifeguard is prohibited except by lifeguards employed at the park.
  • Children under age 9 must be accompanied and supervised by a competent adult. There may be no more that five children per adult.
Staff wants everyone to have a safe and enjoyable swimming season, and by following these rules and regulations, believes everyone can.
