Recreation announces fall exercise classes
FOR RELEASE August 28, 2017
WAYNESBURG, PA The Greene County Department of Recreation’s fall exercise six-week session begins Sunday, Oct. 8 with five different class formats.
Exercise classes for the fall session include Buti Yoga, Cardio Kickboxing, Core de Force, Gentle Yoga and PiYo. Individual classes are $5 each.
A minimum of nine registered and pre-paid participants are required to hold each class. Cancellations will be decided two days prior to class day. Drop-ins are welcome, but attendees are encouraged to call and verify the schedule.
All classes will be held at the Greene County Fairgrounds in the upper level of Building #10 unless informed otherwise. Attendees should wear sweat-absorbing clothes and good support shoes and bring water and towels. Mats are required for Buti Yoga, Core de Force, Gentle Yoga and PiYo.
The fall exercise class schedule at the fairgrounds is:
Sundays: PiYo at 3:30 p.m.; and Core de Force at 4:30 p.m.
Mondays (no class on Oct. 9): Cardio Kickboxing at 5 p.m.
Tuesdays: Gentle Yoga at 5 p.m.
Wednesdays: Cardio Kickboxing at 5 p.m.; and PiYo at 6 p.m.
Thursdays: Buti Yoga at 6:15 p.m.
Buti Yoga, instructed by Bobbie Jo Irizarry, is a practice of high-intensity fusion of yoga, tribal dance and plyometrics. Classes combine cardio, strength training and flexibility in one seamless format.
Cardio Kickboxing combines upper body movements like jabs, crosses, hooks and upper cots with lower body movements such as knee strikes and kicks. Instructor Deneen Chulick will demonstrate choreographed movements of punches, kicks and knee strikes to fast-paced music.
Core de Force, led by Chaley Knight, brings an exhilarating combination of boxing, kickboxing, and Muay Thai with fat-blasting cardio and bodyweight moves to help zero in on a complete body shredding workout. The 45-minute class is broken down into three-minute intervals that create a 360-degree core blast that works.
Gentle Yoga is a gentler style of Hatha yoga exercise that is great for beginners and senior citizens. It improves balance and overall health, while increasing flexibility and circulation. Shoes will not be worn during the class. Instructor Virginia Wainwright will teach all yoga sessions.
PiYo, taught by Meghan Phillips, is a hybrid athletic workout that combines the mind and body practices of Pilates and Yoga as well as the principles of stretch, strength training, conditioning and dynamic movement.
