WAYNESBURG, PA WAYNESBURG, PA – The Greene County Conservation District is holding a poster and coloring contest for Greene County children ages pre-K to 8th grade in celebration of Soil and Water Conservation Week.
“Watersheds: Our Water, Our Home,” is the theme for this year’s Soil and Conservation Week held April 29 to May 5. The National Association of Conservation Districts has free educational resources and activities on this year’s theme at www.nacdnet.org
Entries for both contests may be mailed or hand delivered to the Greene County Conservation District at 22 West High Street Suite 204, Waynesburg, PA 15370. Entries must be received by Friday, April 6 to be eligible.
Poster Contest The poster contest is open to all Greene County students K-8th enrolled in public, private and home schools. Posters will be judged in each of four grade-based categories (K-1, 2-3, 4-6, 7-8). The top three entrants in each category will receive cash prizes, with first place winning $100, second place $75 and third place $50. The first-place poster from each category will advance to a statewide contest later this year.
Posters created for this year’s theme may be completed in school or at home, but must be the work of an individual student. Entries will be judged on their conservation message, visual effectiveness, originality and universal appeal. Posters should be 14”x22” and should be flat – no 3-D objects are permitted.
Coloring Contest The coloring contest open to all Greene County Pre-K children. The top three entrants will receive new bicycles and helmets as prizes. Coloring pages can be found online at www.co.greene.pa.us/gccd or at the Conservation District.
The coloring page features a pair of rainboots that children are encouraged to decorate however they wish. Stickers, markers, crayons, etc. may be used to design a unique set of boots. The child’s name, age, preschool provider information, parent’s name and contact information must be included on the back of the coloring page prior to submission.
