The “Veteran Appreciation Day” event, held at PA CareerLink’s Greene Plaza facility, offered a multitude of programs, vendors and informational sessions geared to assisting the many veterans who registered for the event.
The event featured on-the-job trainings and presentations by a wide array of schools, businesses and organizations, such as the Greene County Veterans Affairs Office, PA State Employment Veterans Preference, Veterans Leadership Program of Western PA, Pittsburgh Hires Veterans, Veterans Benefits Administration, All State Career School, Penn Commercial, Office of Vocational Rehabilitation and more.
Vendors providing resources included Southwest Training Services Inc., Southwestern PA Human Services Inc., PA National Guard, PA Department of Labor, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Presbyterian Senior Care, Waynesburg University and others.
Throughout the day, area veterans were given opportunities to sit in on the informative sessions and ask experts questions, talk with vendors about the services each respective entity provides for veterans, learn writing skills, interview for jobs, receive training and much more.
David Biller, Employment Interviewer for PA CareerLink of Greene County, said CareerLink believes in helping veterans who are seeking assistance in employment and vocation.
“Veterans have unique barriers to overcome when returning to civilian life,” said Biller, a six-year Air Force veteran and U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Commander. “We have veterans working at the CareerLink who understand these barriers at a personal level.”
Greene County Commissioners Blair Zimmerman and Dave Coder visited CareerLink during the event and said that the event was beneficial for area veterans.
“This is a great event for our men and women who served our great nation and are seeking assistance in areas such as job training, learning interview skills and connecting with potential employers,” Zimmerman said. “We commend PA CareerLink for organizing Veteran Appreciation Day and providing them with valuable resources.”
Coder, a U.S. Coast Guard veteran, also thanked PA CareerLink and the many vendors and speakers who were in attendance to help veterans.
“CareerLink did a wonderful job with this event,” Coder said. “This dedicated staff deserves kudos for putting together Veteran Appreciation Day to not only show honor and respect to our veterans, but also offer them valuable and much-needed resources.”
PA CareerLink of Greene County, located at 200 Greene Plaza in Waynesburg, offers a multitude of services. Job seekers are able to attend resume workshops and job fairs and receive career counseling, job search assistance, interview skills training, skills assessments, computer training. Employers may receive free job posting assistance, free candidate screenings and referrals, recruitment assistance, access to labor market data, information on training providers and on-the-job training.
The Greene County office is open on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Tuesdays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Wednesdays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Thursdays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Fridays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The office is closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
