Commissioners proclaim National Correctional Officers and Employees Week

WAYNESBURG, PA. – During their recent meeting, Greene County Commissioners proclaimed May 5-11, 2019 as National Correctional Officers and Employees Week.   The proclamation states that the national recognition was first proclaimed on May 15, 1984 by President Ronald Reagan, when he signed a proclamation to recognize the men and women who work in jails, prisons and community corrections across the country.

National Correctional Officers and Employees Week has been designated by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Prison.

The proclamation also states that National Correctional Officers and Employees Week “honors the work of Correctional Officers and Correctional Personnel for their service with honor, respect and integrity, and raises awareness of the duties, hazards and sacrifices made by the Correctional employees.”

The proclamation adds that the designation “recognizes Correctional officers and employees for their role in safeguarding the citizens of Greene County by providing safe, secure and humane incarceration of offenders within their custody.”

In presenting the proclamation, Commissioners encouraged all residents “to pay tribute to all of the many Correctional Employees working in Greene County for the vital service they provide.”
