DECEMBER 3, 2011 BREAKFAST WITH SANTA & WAYNESBURG CHRISTMAS PARADE
The children not only enjoyed sausage and pancakes with Santa & Mrs. Claus; but there was a Christmas coloring contest, with prizes for winners in different age categories. And photos with Santa; so please enjoy some of the photos provided by participants in these events.
The Department of Recreation and the Greene County Commissioners sponsored the annual "Breakfast with Santa" held at the Greene County Fairgrounds. While the Waynesburg Christmas Parade was held in the afternoon, sponsored by the Waynesburg Chamber of Commerce. We hope you enjoy the Christmas photos:

NOVEMBER 17, 2011 COMMISSIONERS PRESENT CERTIFICATE OF ACHIEVEMENT
Greene County Commissioners presented a certificate of achievement to Dr. Mona Counts of Waynesburg at their Nov. 17 regular meeting. The certificate honors Counts’ recent induction as a Fellow into the American Academy of Nursing and recognizes her lifelong commitment to healthcare in Greene County.
Counts, a professor at Penn State’s School of Nursing, helped found the Primary Care Center of Mt. Morris and has been involved in rural healthcare initiatives throughout her career.
"Mona has been a fixture in this community for many years and has positively impacted the health of its residents,” said Melany Chrash, MSN, CRNT, assistant professor of nursing at Waynesburg University. “She has truly been a mentor to me, and she has given to this community from her heart."
"Whenever you think of quality healthcare in a rural area, you think of Mona,” said Commissioner Pam Snyder, chair of the Board of Commissioners. “She has always been focused on taking care of people, and we appreciate all that she has done for the community."

JULY 20, 2011 HUMANE SOCIETY DONATION
The Greene County Commissioners recently presented the Humane Society of Greene County with the county’s annual $25,000 donation to cover general operating costs.
"Most of the money will be used for medical and veterinarian expenses for abused and neglected animals," said Jane Gapen, humane society executive director, noting that the shelter currently has about 140 cats and 30 dogs for adoption.
The Humane Society, which runs solely on donations, will host its annual Dog Gone Pool Party Sunday, Sept. 4, at Mon View Pool in Greensboro. For more information, call 724-627-9988.

July 12, 2011 NINE SELECTED TO RECEIVE COUNTY SCHOLARSHIPS
Nine Greene County high school graduates have been selected as the recipients of the 2011 County of Greene/Allegheny Energy Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded annually to eligible graduating seniors who plan to attend Waynesburg University and represents a $1,000 award to be used toward each student’s first year of enrollment. All nine students will enter Waynesburg University this fall.

MAY 3, 2011 COUNTY, FirstENERGY PERMANENTLY ENDOW SCHOLARSHIP
Representatives from FirstEnergy Corp. recently met with the Greene County Commissioners and made a final donation to the County of Greene/Allegheny Energy Scholarship, ensuring the scholarship’s permanent endowment. The County of Greene/Allegheny Energy Scholarship is awarded annually to Greene County graduating seniors who plan to attend Waynesburg University.
This year, 10 students – two from each of the county’s five high schools – are expected to receive the scholarship, which represents a $1,000 award to be used toward each student’s first year of enrollment.

APRIL 21, 2011 WEAR PURPLE DAY IN SUPPORT OF OUR RELAY FOR LIFE on April 30-May 1, 2011
Greene County Commissioners proclaimed Friday, April 29, 2011, Wear Purple Day at their April 21 regular meeting. The proclamation supports the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Greene County, which will be held April 30-May 1 at the Waynesburg Central High School Raider Field of Pride. Purple is the official color of Relay For Life.
Margie Smith, senior community income development representative for the American Cancer Society, thanked the commissioners for their continuing support of Relay and all of its related events and activities.
"You’ve never closed a door on us, and we are so appreciative," Smith said. "Our goal this year is to raise $180,000, and we are well on our way to reaching that goal."

MARCH 2, 2011 DAFFODIL DAYS PROCLAMATION
Greene County Commissioners proclaimed the week of March 14-20, 2011, Daffodil Days at their March 2 agenda meeting. This year marks the 37th anniversary of the American Cancer Society’s Daffodil Days program, which involves the sale of the flowers and related items every March. The daffodil is the symbol of hope in the fight against cancer.

February 23, 2011 COMMISSIONERS PRESENT SCHOLARSHIP DONATION
WAYNESBURG, PA Greene County Commissioners Pam Snyder, Archie Trader and Chuck Morris today presented WCCC President Daniel J. Obara and Dr. Nancy Davis, WCCC energy industry liaison for Greene County, with a $25,000 check to establish a scholarship fund for WCCC Greene County Education Center students. That donation, along with a $25,000 matching contribution from an anonymous donor, will fund the Windy Ridge Retreat/Allegheny Power Greene County Center Scholarship. Half of the $50,000 fund will be endowed, and the remainder will be available for student scholarships for the fall semester.
The Windy Ridge Retreat/Allegheny Power Greene County Center Scholarship will award $500 per student for tuition and books.
To be eligible for the scholarship, students must have three years of immediate past residency in Greene County and be enrolled at the WCCC Greene County Education Center in one of the following areas of study: business, education, health care, information technology or sciences. Students must complete and submit a WCCC Scholarship Application as well as the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form by May 1.

February 16, 2011 CHESAPEAKE ENERGY SUPPORTS GREENE COUNTY's DRUG TASK FORCE
WAYNESBURG, PA Chesapeake Energy recently presented a $1,000 donation to Greene County Chief Detective Fran Suppok and Greene County Controller Dave Balint for Greene County’s Drug Task Force. The funding will be used to help offset task force personnel costs that exceed the allotment from the Pennsylvania attorney general’s office.
The detectives serve on the task force in addition to their regular duties as police officers and draw upon their experience to recognize, evaluate and eradicate drug trafficking in Greene County. Agents of the state attorney general’s office manage the task force with the assistance of the Greene County district attorney. The task force comprises members of the Carmichaels, Cumberland Township and Waynesburg Borough police departments and Greene County detectives.

The Greene County Commissioners and First Federal Savings & Loan of Greene County will host a “Steelers Super Bowl ‘Tail’-gate Party” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, on the steps of the Greene County Courthouse.
