OVERVIEW:
Greene County’s legal counsel is appointed by the Greene County Commissioners to represent them as their general counsel, advise the commissioners on legal issues and serve as the County’s attorney. Legal counsel draws up contracts and assures a legal basis for all county governmental functions. Specifically, duties include:
Providing legal opinions upon any legal matter or question.
Preparing and revising ordinances and resolutions.
Litigating legal actions and claims brought by or against the County except when other legal counsel is retained.
Approving the legality of contracts, agreements or other legal documents executed by authorized County officials.
ABOUT CHERYL COWEN:
Cowen has served as solicitor for Greene County since July 2009, when commissioners moved to replace Farley Toothman, who was appointed Judge of the Court of Common Pleas. Cheryl and her husband reside in Lippencott, where she maintains a private law practice; her job with the counthy is considered part-time.
