December 22, 2011 — Incumbent Tom Headlee was sworn in by Judge William Nalitz taking his Oath of Office prior to the actual scheduled December 29 ceremony date; knowing he would be out-of-town on that day. Honoring their grandfather by holding the Bible for his swearing-in, are AJ Curtis and Jessi Schifko, click here for photo.

Mr. Headlee has served in this position since 1976, and was re-elected in the November 2011 General Elections to serve another four-year term (2012-2016). While in this elected office, Tom served as the President, Vice President, and Secretary of the Recorder of Deeds Association.
Tom was instrumental in the establishment of the Center Township Volunteer Fire Department (where he remains a charter member), a past member of the West Greene School Board, West Greene Lions Club, Historical Society and Masonic Lodge, Community Foundation of Greene County, Greene County Conservation District, Waynesburg Moose Lodge and Cornerstone Genealogy Society.

Tom is also on the board of the Community Foundation on the Grantmaking Committee; and a member of the All Class Reunion Committee for Mapletown Schools. He belongs to and has served as president of Pennsylvania Recorders of Deeds Association and Pennsylvania Register of Wills Association. Tom is an avid supporter of our county Relay for Life.

As register of wills, his duties include filing all papers in reference to wills and estates. As recorder of deeds, he is responsible for recording all land transactions, which include deeds, mortgages, leases and rights of way. Also kept are military discharges, mine subsidence maps and highway maps. Mr. Headlee is responsible for maintaining and preserving copies of all of these documents for public use.

Mr. Headlee is a graduate of Mapletown High School and West Virginia University. After a stint with the U.S. Forest Service in southern Illinois, he was associated with his family's lumber business for 38 years. Tom and his family currently reside in Waynesburg; however, he continues to be quite active with groups located in the West Greene Area.

Married in 1957, Tom and his late wife Pauline Barzanti (1937-2011) of Bobtown raised four daughters, Cindy (John) Curtis of Rices Landing, Pennsylvania; Patty Headlee of Flagstaff, Arizona; Judy Schifko of Waynesburg, Pennsylvania; and Amy Headlee of Reston, Virginia. The couple have four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
