Program Overview:
The Day Camp program runs for six weeks every summer, providing hundreds of Greene County children with fun and activities. Running from mid-June until the end of July, the Day Camp program is free for all county children ages five to 15 years old. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, campers enjoy activities at eight parks, pools, community centers and elementary schools across the county.

Camp Locations:
The Day Camp locations include Waynesburg Lions Club Park, Carmichaels Wana B Park, Rices Landing Mon View Park, Jefferson Township Park, Ryerson Station State Park. Nineveh Community Center campers will be bussed to Ryerson Station, and Bobtown Elementary campers will be bussed to Mon View Park' and campers at Jefferson Township Park will be bussed to Eastern Pool at Wana B Park in Carmichaels each afternoon.

Activities include games, crafts, educational programs, snacks, swimming, skating, and playground fun! hot lunch and snacks are provided. Local high school students serve as camp counselors and all activities are supervised daily; our day camp operates Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (except July 4).

Day Camps were originally offered in 1970 at three sites, but were ended in 1975. In 1991, the Department began offering the Summer Day Camps again, which has become an extremely successful program throughout the County. Since its re-offering, the Summer Day Camp program has been expanded from one site in 1991 to three sites in 1992 and is currently offered at the sites mentioned above.

The Day Camp program is funded through sponsors and Department of Recreation fundraisers such as the Miss Greene County Pageant, held in March, and the Dock to Lock 5K Run/Walk & 10K Run, held in May.


Learn to Swim Program:
In addition to the Summer Day Camps, the Department of Recreation also offers a Learn to Swim program. The program is offfered at both the Alpha Aquatic Center in Waynesburg and Carmichaels Pool at Wana B Park in Carmichaels. Sign-ups for swim lessons will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, at Alpha Aquatic Center, located at 200 E. Roy Furman Highway in Waynesburg, and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, June 2, at Carmichaels Pool, located adjacent to Wana B Park at 355 Ceylon Road in Carmichaels.

Lessons are $20 per class, and payment will be due upon signing up for classes. Each class is designed for swimmers of certain skill levels. Class instructors will determine in which class to place each swimmer. A minimum of five swimmers must be signed up for each class to run. The maximum for each class is 15 swimmers. Some classes may be combined or canceled due to enrollment. Refunds will only be given if the Department of Recreation cancels a class. Camp Challenge:
The Washington-Greene County Job Training Agency, Inc., administers Camp Challenge with funding provided by the Greene County Memorial Hospital Foundation. Camp Challenge is for children ages 9 to 11 years old. The mission of Camp Challenge is to educate the youth of Greene County about positive lifestyles and career choices.

During the one-hour sessions, lessons will be taught in a fun, interactive approach and environment, including competitive games, relays, ongoing activities, and daily rewards and prizes. Upon completion of the camp, participants will be invited to attend a field trip which will include a luncheon at the Cheesecake Factory and a guided tour of Heinz Field, home of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
