Commissioners issue proclamations to honor local police, EMS

WAYNESBURG, PA. – During their recent meeting, Greene County Commissioners issued proclamations recognizing local police officers and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) workers.

A proclamation was issued recognizing May 12-18, 2019 as National Police Week. The proclamation states that the members of law enforcement play an important role in safeguarding the rights and freedoms of all citizens.

“It is important that all citizens know and understand the problems, duties and responsibilities of their police department, and that all members of our police departments recognize their duty to serve the people by safeguarding life and property, protecting them against violence or disorder, and protecting the innocent against deception and the weak against oppression or intimidation,” the proclamation states.

In acknowledging the proclamation, Commissioners said they “urge our citizens to join in commemorating law enforcement officer, past and present, who by their faithful and loyal devotion to their communities, have established for themselves the rights and security of all citizens.”

A proclamation was also issued to recognize May 19-25 as EMS Week. The proclamation states that the members of EMS teams are ready to provide lifesaving care to those in need 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“Access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the survival and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or injury,” the proclamation states. “Emergency medical services have grown to fill a gap by providing important, out of hospital care, including preventative medicine, follow-up care, and access to telemedicine.”

The proclamation adds that the emergency medical services system consists of first responders, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, emergency medical dispatchers, firefighters, police officers, educators, administrators, pre-hospital nurses, emergency nurses, emergency physicians, trained members of the public, and other out of hospital medical care providers.

In acknowledging the proclamation, Commissioners said the members of emergency medical service teams, whether career or volunteer, engage in thousands of hours of specialized training and continuing education to enhance their lifesaving skills.

“It is appropriate to recognize the value and the accomplishments of emergency medical services providers by designating Emergency Medical Week,” the proclamation states.WAYNESBURG, PA. – During their recent meeting, Greene County Commissioners issued proclamations recognizing local police officers and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) workers.
