Greene County Pools and Summer Camp Revisited

Greene County Pools and Summer Camps Revisited

WAYNESBURG – Without discussion or prior coordination, Governor Wolf announced late last Friday a significant change in criteria to be considered in the reopening plan for Pennsylvania, specifically for pools and summer day camps.  In light of these changes, the Greene County Commissioners and Parks and Recreation anticipate opening two swimming pools and conducting a modified summer day camp schedule.
In order to facilitate swimming pools and day camps, Greene County is in desperate need of   lifeguards, camp counselors, concession workers, night watchmen, guest relations, and summer laborers. If we cannot hire the requisite employees, we will not be able to open the pools or facilitate summer camps or may have to restrict the hours of operation. Please see the county employment website or call (724) 852-5381 for more information on employment opportunities.

We anticipate opening the Greene County Water Park in Waynesburg and Carmichael’s pool on June 22, 2020. The Water Park and Carmichael’s pool are planned to be open 11:00 am to 9:00 pm weekdays and 11:00 to 6:00 pm on weekends. The pools will be available for private rental, as well. Please call (724) 852-5323 next week for more information on passes and schedules.

The Summer Time Arts and Recreation (STAR) day camps will be held in Waynesburg and Carmichaels for children 5 to 12 years of age, from 9:00 am to 12:00pm with an anticipated start date of June 22, 2020. Please call (724) 852-5323 next week for more information on summer camp schedules. Lunch “to go” will be provided at 12:00 for summer camp participants.
The Department of Recreation will also coordinate “to go” lunches for students not participating in summer camps with all Greene County school districts and lunches will be provided in Waynesburg, Jefferson, Mon View and West Greene.

Mon View swimming pool and day camps will remain closed due to significant construction work scheduled in the area and the lack of available lifeguards and camp counselors.

Although the reopening plan for Pennsylvania changes daily, we continue to encourage personal responsibility and safe behavior in accordance with the CDC and DOH.  The county government’s website is continuously being updated and provides information from local, state and federal organizations related to the coronavirus, https://www.co.greene.pa.us/coronavirus. Additional information can be obtained on the Greene County Commissioner’s Facebook page or by calling (724) 852-5210.
